*My eyes are sore from all the tears as we continue to watch the goodbye tributes to President and First Lady Obama, Malia and Sasha across social media platforms.
Recently, Jimmy Fallon had guests tape messages to the FLOTUS. They poured their hearts out while looking at a large picture of her on the wall. Little did they know, she was closer than they thought..
As NewsOne reports, tears began to flow as FLOTUS emerged, sometimes so taken by what was being said, right in the middle of their message.
?For years you have shown our nation countless times that through dignity, compassion and respect we can overcome any hardship,??one woman who burst into tears once she realized the First Lady stood in front of her said. Continue reading →
Maybe “it” is the nerve to be exactly who you are in the face of people who will say all kinds of things about you while you’re doing it. ?Or maybe “it” is simply the ability to rock mascara et al with the best of the ladies. ?I’ve not seen a guy flaunt full-on makeup — without changing gender expression, which is different than gender identity — so well since Boy George of Culture Club fame. ??
Just looking around this coffee shop where I’m parked this morning, Gutierrez is putting everyone up in here — male and female — to absolute shame. ?Continue reading →
*I?m tempted to tell you that the exceptional new Hidden Figures is the best movie I?ve seen this year. Since 2017 is just out of the gate, that comment might be seen as more than a little glib.
So I?ll go out on a limb and say this: Hidden Figuresis the best movie I WILL see this year.
Usually, period pieces that are based on history don?t hold my attention, largely because we already know how the movie?s going to turn out. (We KNEW the Titanic was iceberg-bound and doomed, right? So who really cares about Leo DiCaprio?s ?I?m the king of the world!? moment?)
With the story behind Hidden Figures, we already know that Neil Armstrong helps America win the space race, and that he walked on the moon eight years later. What most of us didn?t know was that a group of black women ? ?Colored Computers? they were called ? were largely responsible for getting him there. Told from their perspective, THIS period piece kept me, literally, on the edge of my seat through the film?s final act. Continue reading →
*Just in case you think you might be seeing things as you look at the photo above. You kind of are. You are seeing a crocodile named ‘Poncho’ kissing a man named Chito Shedden, a fisherman who saw him injured and alone, and rounded up a group of brave friends to lift the croc and take him to safety.
The reptile reportedly lay dying on a river bank in Siquirres, Costa Rica when the fisherman spotted him. Snedden, a tour guide by trade, kind of fancies himself as an amateur naturalist and as such has learned a few things.
Obviously, how to wrangle in a crocodile without being eaten alive is one! Continue reading →
*How, you may wonder, does strange sh*t like this end up on my desk??I am scratching my head as I ask this, and giving Lee Bailey the side eye. But here it is. It’s s story from 2013 that most people missed. It ain’t pretty and it’s got the nerve to be true.
Some weird ass 18-year-old white girl named Alisa Massaro always had a thing about f*cking dead dudes. Two of ’em ended up at her house, coerced by the promise of sex — but instead, were strangled by the wench and her friends — two dudes, one of ’em the 19-year-old son of a police sergeant, and some other girl.
According to police reports, Joshua Miner, her 24-year-old boyfriend, then piled the bodies of the deceased men — Eric Glover and Terrence Rankins, who were both 22 and black — together and placed a beige sheet across them so he and Massaro, could lie together on top of them and have sex.
Oh god. Must I continue? Bailey’s looking at me so I guess that means?yes.Continue reading →
*Instead of just eating, paying and getting the phuck out, one 20-something white couple decided to write a despicable note on the receipt of the waitress they say had just provided “Great service” to them.
The note on the stained receipt read, “great service don’t tip black people.”
Now I know racism is still alive and well in these United States of America, but why do I feel like vomiting every time I see it in black and white?
Of course waitress Kelly Carter was stunned, and her boss at Anita’s New Mexico Style Cafe in Ashburn, Virginia, Tommy Tellez Sr., embarrassed.
He told WJLA: ?I?m appalled. This is so disheartening.? He says Carter is such a loyal employee and beloved by the customers.
?She has a following,? Tellez said. ?Her philosophy for customer service is way beyond the norm, and we?re really happy to have her.?
According to what Carter told WJLA, the couple acted like anyone else. They gave no indication whatsoever that they were racists. She said the woman even complimented the food.Continue reading →
