Membership in both the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts is now based on the gender indicated on an application, NOT on the gender listed on an applicant’s birth certificate.
They’ve FINALLY come to the conclusion that relying on an individual’s birth certificate “…is no longer sufficient as communities and state laws are interpreting gender identity differently, and these laws vary widely from state to state,” a BSA spokesperson said in a statement Monday.
In other words, the Boy Scouts of America has joined the 21st century, and I extend a hearty “Welcome aboard!”
*President Barack Obama, during his farewell speech, said “If something needs fixing, lace up your shoes and do some organizing. ?If you’re disappointed by your elected officials, grab a clipboard, get some signatures, and run for office yourself. ?Show up. ?Dive in. ?Persevere.”
Detroit’s Myya D. Jones, 22, has taken the president’s sage advice to heart. ?She’s running for the mayor of her hometown. ?
“I have always been interested in civil engagement,” Jones told Detroit’s Metro Times. ?”But I was turned off from doing politics because we had such a negative stigma around politics in Detroit.”
Now, she hopes to change that narrative, while she changes things in the city she calls home. Continue reading →
*Yesterday I received a message from Uber founder and CEO, Travis Kalanick. As a member of his Uber driving team, it’s not rare to receive messages from “Travis” but this one was especially sensitive because it is in response to something…or should I say someone… that has our entire country up in arms right now.
Donald Trump and his “Temporary Immigration Travel Ban.”
As is the case with any entrepreneur, any businessman, such a dramatic stance as Trump’s decision to halt all movement of immigrants coming to this country; and threatening to stop those who reside here but travel back home from returning not only has devastating humanistic effects, but profound effects on business as well.
Many Uber staff members are immigrants — drivers and technicians.
But the email is in direct support of drivers.?So Uber has decided to take a stand and assist those affected by the ban.
No matter what some will call a hidden agenda, (hey, he’s a businessman but does that make him any less human?) I already applaud the gesture.
*Let’s start your week off with a feel-good video. Aww, c’mon, I know you’ve probably just finished lunch and have to go back to the office, but don’t hate, congratulate! This is one very happy doggie.
Actually, on your next break, take a look at the video and play a little game with me called, “I wonder what this doggie would say if he could talk?”
*Let?s file this under people have openly begun to lose their damn mind. Anytime a person take?s someone else?s kid — let alone ANY kid — and throws them onto the tracks of an oncoming train, I mean, WTF?
But this is what a New Jersey woman allegedly did, according to WABC-TV.
*They say life imitates art. ?Sometimes, it’s the other way around.
A western drama TV series called “Trackdown,” ran from 1957 to 1959. ?One of the series’ episodes, entitled “End of the World,” featured a con man named Walter Trump who told everyone that he could prevent the world from ending by…
Hilariously, the similarities don’t end there. ? OUR Trump and THAT Trump had similar speaking patterns. ?Check out this snippet of dialogue from the 1958 episode, and see if you agree:Continue reading →
*When it comes to contributing to a “cure” for world hunger, some things just appear to be?no brainers.?I mean after all, big business, small business, upscale individuals and those who are able to just make do can do?something?to make a mark. Right?
Some of us may not be able to give money, but we can give time (volunteer) at food kitchens. Others might be better able to drop a check in the mail, donate food, etc. But here is a concept that I just had to pass along because it does so much more than give food, it gives it with a dose of dignity.
*”I see the dad every day, dropping his son off at school in his mom?s truck,” said one parent whose 4-year-old son is a classmate of the child whose father was executed in front of Mark Twain Elementary School in southwest Detroit. The shooting occurred at 7:50 a.m., just after the child had been dropped off at school.
Fortunately, the kid didn’t witness the murder. It happened after the little boy had exited the car and went inside the building. His father, whose name has yet to be released, was shot in the head.
Investigators say that a man in the back passenger seat of the same car the father and son were in — a black Nissan — is a suspect. The man ran after the shooting happened.
The male suspect, in his 20s, is black, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and about 180 pounds, police said. Continue reading →
