lynda thomas - beckie duncan hayes

*You could argue that this is a case of taking fandom too far. So far that it got a pair of Texas politicians in hot water that they had to resign. What did they do?  They allegedly misused public funds to attend an event on Michelle Obama’s book tour.

As a result, Forest Hill, Texas, Mayor Lyndia Thomas and Mayor Pro Tem Beckie Hayes submitted their resignations on Wednesday, ahead of a public hearing over alleged misconduct and expenses related to the former first lady’s book tour event in Dallas last year.

*Have you ever wondered what kind of conditions African Americans had to endure at the start and end of the Civil War?

Did D.C. follow the lead of other states or was it the first to shift from the attitude of Emancipation? What were the ripple effects of the Reconstruction Era? All of these questions will be answered if you read on.

The Reconstruction Era of Washington D.C. had 2 transformations that have been known to be quite long-lasting. The transformations were the exponential growth of the city and the end of slavery. The Congress was being constantly told by the Abolitionists to stop slavery ? especially in D.C.

Congress, on the other hand, was dominated by interests of holding on to slavery and hence wouldn?t shift from their current stand.

Trump Won’t Join Nike Boycott ‘Cause He’s Scared: Company is A Tennant That ‘Pays A Lot of Rent’

trump - nike

*Welp, if you’re one of those tRumpers that expected the orange a-hole in the White House to go in on Nike and join the boycott against the company for putting Colin Kaepernick at the center of it’s “Just Do It” 30th anniversary campaing, guess what, it ain’t happening.

Why is that you ask?  Well, like everything else with Trump, it’s all about the money.  Read on for the full story via Newsweek.

Nike unveiled Colin Kaepernick as one of the faces of its 30th anniversary ?Just Do It? campaign, prompting harsh criticism from a number of political commentators and Nike customers, who have accused the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback of showing disrespect to the flag when he chose to kneel during the national anthem in 2016.

While Trump criticized the campaign, he also said the company was one of his main tenants. “I think it’s a terrible message and a message that shouldn’t be sent,” he told The Daily Caller when asked about the campaign. “There’s no reason for it.” But, the president explained, Nike was a tenant of his, and “they pay a lot of rent.”

Nike?s flagship store was located on a site owned by Trump next to Trump Tower in New York City. But the location has since closed, and in 2017 Nike, which is based in Oregon, announced it would open a new shop on Fifth Avenue by the end of this year.

The advertising campaign?which features a picture of Kaepernick with a message reading “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything”?sparked a furious backlash, which even saw people burning their Nike sneakers in protest.

Calls for a boycott of the company quickly spread on social media, but Trump defended Nike, suggesting the company was perfectly within its rights to choose Kaepernick?who has been a Nike athlete since 2011?to promote its campaign.

“As much as I disagree with the Colin Kaepernick endorsement, in another way?I mean, I wouldn’t have done it. In another way, it is what this country is all about, that you have certain freedoms to do things that other people think you shouldn’t do, but I personally am on a different side of it.”

New-Age Jim Crow and the Rise of Racial Profiling (WATCH)

*Recently, news of police being called on black people has become all too common. Innocuous, everyday actions like napping in a university dorm, waiting in Starbucks, renting an airbnb, checking out a real estate property and shopping at Nordstrom have lead to the police showing up.

Sometimes the encounters end peacefully like in the case of the white woman who called the police on a black family for barbequing in Oakland.

The police took the side of the black youths and didn?t take any actions.

On the other hand, it can end up in cold-blooded murder like in the case of Stephon Clark who got shot to death by police in his own backyard for holding a mobile phone. ?Existing while black? is becoming harder day by day.

Editorial: Responses from Roseanne Barr (to Cast Members) Weakens Her Apology for Racist Tweet

*Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Will Roseanne Barr ever learn that everything that pops into her head does not need to be tweeted out to the public? She is acting just like her apparent mentor, without the benefits. He’s still on office…her unemployment became effective immediately.

But the real concern here is how weak her apology to the cast members and crew of the rebooted Roseanne show — those who lost their jobs due to her big mouth — has become.

Her whole “I should’ve known better” comment did somehow appear to show her taking responsibility for that careless tweet; where she compared former Obama Senior Adviser, Valerie Jarrett (Am I the only one who thinks the two women actually favor?) to an ape.

?Don?t feel sorry for me, guys!!-I just want to apologize to the hundreds of people, and wonderful writers (all liberal) and talented actors who lost their jobs on my show due to my stupid tweet.? –Roseanne Barr

But that accountability diminished when she, one: attempted to blame her actions on medication, and two: demonstrated her true colors by criticizing cast members (scroll down) who responded about how “disgusted” they were about her comment.

WTF? What did she expect them to say? Anything else would have them appearing just as dumb as her.

Yeah. I said it! Continue reading
