HIV is Still A Major Problem in the South – Why is That?

*(Via The Conversation) – Increased funding, targeted prevention efforts and better treatment have helped to slow down the HIV epidemic in the United States. The number of new HIV-positive cases has decreased significantly, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with the number of new HIV diagnoses declining by 19 percent from 2005 to 2014.

This is not the case in many parts of the country, however. As AIDS and public health researchers, we are among those who are alarmed by areas in the southern United States where the numbers of cases have not declined and even more by the areas in which increases have occurred.

*(Via ABC2) – The man who gunned down five co-workers and wounded a sixth at a suburban Chicago manufacturing warehouse before shooting and wounding five police officers brought his gun to a meeting in which he was going to be fired, authorities said Saturday.

Because Gary Martin brought his gun to Friday?s meeting at the sprawling Henry Pratt Co. warehouse in Aurora, he likely knew he might be about to lose the job he had held for 15 years, police Chief Kristen Ziman said at a news conference.

Terror You Can See: Big Cat (A Leopard) Attacks & Injures Indian Villagers – WATCH!

*If you haven’t heard, veteran NBC news man Tom Brokaw is sitting in some deeeeep hot water today because of the comments he made Sunday on “Meet the Press.” 

Brokaw, 78, has already apologized for saying that Hispanic immigrants need to do a better job of assimilating to the United States and teaching their children to speak English, but as you may have already guessed (our headline’s a good clue), Hispanic groups, including the National Association of Hispanic Journalists/NAHJis not satisfied and is not having it, according to Richard Prince’s Journal-isms blog.

Hackers Watched, Taunted Family Via Home Security Cameras; Children Called the N-word!

Good Lord! How would you like to be this couple from Auburn, Washington who had to live like they were living in a real-life horror film after they discovered someone had been watching them via their home security cameras.

According to Abby Laguidao,  she installed a Nest home security system in her home in December.  She had a camera positioned near the front door, and another mounted in the corner of her living room.

Laquidao shares her house with her baby daddy, Conrado Casallo, and their three children: six-year-old twins and a baby. It was shortly after installing the equipment that she started feeling like something just wasn’t right.
