Texas Gov. Rick Perry signs abortion law that will likely close most of the abortion clinics in Texas, Thursday, July 18, 2013.
In late June, we reported on pro-choice hero Wendy Davis when she stood on Texas’ state floor and staged an 11-hour filibuster without breaks to fight against the abortion bill that would close all but five abortion clinics in the state.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry was in total opposition to Davis, so much so, that he re-introduced the bill and had it signed into law Thursday morning. The earlier version was successfully thwarted by Davis’ filibuster, but sly Perry slid a new and improved version in and both houses of the legislature passed it through last week with a final signature from Perry today. According to the report from the Huffington Post, he was locked and loaded, prepared for today! Continue reading
Texas State Senator, Wendy Davis (D), went up against Texas’ governor Rick Perry (R) to kill abortion bill that would close all but five abortion clinics as well as many other restrictions, and won, Wednesday, June 26, 2013.
Have you ever given a speech? Have you ever given a speech for 11 hours? Yeah, that’s what we thought! Unbelievable, right?
Well, it’s time to stand and applaud the incredible Texas state senator Wendy Davis for her heroic 11-hour filibuster that stopped a bill that would’ve closed all but five of the abortion clinics in Texas, due to the bill’s requirement for all abortion clinics to have ambulatory surgical center licenses. The Republican bill would also prevent abortions at 20 weeks or more, set restrictions on use of an abortion pill and give no exceptions for women who have psychological conditions or who become pregnant through rape or incest. But with all that, Texas Governor Rick Perry vowed to bring the bill back…but not before he took a swipe at Davis with her own past teenage pregnancy. Yeah…he went there. Continue reading
Kimberly McCarthy, 52, is the 500th inmate to be executed on Texas’ death row, Wednesday, June 26, 2013.
Texas is known for having a no nonsense approach to their inmates on death row. They ensure that those convicted and placed on death row are indeed dealt their punishment without a lengthy ride on death row.
Kimberly McCarthy, 52, was executed by a lethal injection of pentobarbital, Wednesday, June 26, and pronounced dead at 6:37 pm. She was on death row for the brutal 1997 murder and robbery of her 71-year-old neighbor, retired professor Dorothy Booth. We reported in January that she had received a reprieve from death at that time because, according to her attorney, a predominantly white jury was “improperly selected on the basis of race.” Out of 12 jury members, 11 of them were white. Jasper, Texas, officers Ricky Grissom and Ryan Cunningham were caught on police station surveillance video, beating 25-year-old Keyarika Diggles, May, 5, 2013, after dragging her to jail for a traffic ticket without a warrant.
Do you remember James Byrd? He was the black man in Jasper, Texas, that was dragged by a pickup truck until his arm was ripped from his body and he was decapitated. The three white boys that offered him a ride that horrific night were Shawn Berry, Lawrence Russell Brewer and John William King; all of which have were sentenced to death with the exception of Berry, who was given a life sentence. Now, those memories of racial hatred in the town are being drudged up again.
According to the Huffington Post, the city of Jasper, Texas, is under fire again with the beating of 25-year-old Keyarika Diggles inside a police station. The surveillance cameras in the station caught the entire incident on tape where two officers, Ricky Grissom and Ryan Cunningham, are seen ramming her head into the front desk and dragging her by her leg into a cell after cuffing her and pulling on her arms. The Assistant District Attorney feels quite confident about the decision to imprison Willie Ward for 50 years over a slab of ribs, according to the above statement he made to the press and printed in the Waco Tribune.
Texas is home to some of the most notorious criminals in government (not saying any names), yet they have the nerve to be one of the most least tolerant states when it comes to crime. They will put you on death row in a heartbeat and will not let you rest there more than 10 years. They take it seriously.
Willie Smith Ward is a Texas resident that has seen his troubles with the law, but judging from his past, he never thought he’d get 5 decades in prison for stealing. And no, he didn’t steal a car, rob a bank, or pull off the jewelry heist of the century…HE STOLE A PACK OF RIBS! Continue reading
Michelle Clark gives her account of the hailstorm Houston, Texas, experienced last week and published on YouTube March 21, 2013.
Various cities across the nation have made overnight commercial sensations out of those they’ve interviewed. But, the exploitation that was planned, resulted in the commercial success, thus dollars and cents for all of them so far. First, Antoine Dodson told us to “hide your kids,” then Sweet Brown didn’t “have time for that,” now we have a new contender “doggone!”
Michelle Clark is a Houston, Texas resident that was nearly knocked out by “quarter” size hail rocks that ripped through the city knocking out windows, car lights, and bustin’ people upside the head! Clark was so shocked by the event that she had to run to her “restroom and see if her mama was alright.” Continue reading
