*There is an elementary school in my neighborhood that has a tradition of placing quotes on a huge board outside on their lawn. Each Monday a new quote is there. No author. Just the quote. I, not unlike many of my neighbors, have come to look forward to the quote of the week. Once I saw the man putting the quote up on the board; which was amazing because after all of these years, I’d never seen the quotes being placed. They were just there every Monday once I got to that intersection where the school is. I felt like jumping out of my car and telling him how much I appreciate them.
But I didn’t.
This week the quote is clearly religious; though it often goes beyond religion, offering seeking minds the opportunity to think more broadly, more humanistic and more spiritual — irregardless of what your faith might be.
The quote reads…
“The Bible is meant to be bread for daily use. Not cake for special occasions.”
*In what ended with a murder suicide this past Sunday, congregation members at 2nd Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church on West side Chicago were shocked at the events that followed a most likely beautiful service at their church that morning. Once the service ended, and 38-year-old Trinyce L. Sanders-Wilson left the church and went to her car, her husband appeared with a gun and killed her.
He then turned the gun on himself.
ABC7’s Will Jones say witnesses claim the woman’s husband was waiting for her outside with a gun. Sanders-Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:26 p.m. according of officials. Andrew Davis witnessed the horrific incident and told the media that he heard “a pop” after the woman reached her car, and then saw her fall. He said a man came and stood over her and then shot her two times.
Though it is always extremely hard to hear such words at a time like this, Reverend Kenneth Giles spoke to the media outside, saying, “God doesn’t always give us advance warning about how He is going to have things happen in our lives. We have to trust Him. Trust the word of God that says, ‘We walk by faith and not by sight.'” Continue reading →
*People obviously sick and tired of being sick and tired took action recently when a racist and armed anti-Muslim group of whites ascended upon an African American Mosque in Texas, fixin’ to start some stuff.
Needless to say, things didn’t go as planned. The “greeters” had obviously gotten the memo, and were waiting for them.
With guns in tow.
It seems BAIR, otherwise known as the Bureau of American Islamic Relations has made it their mission to show up with firearms at Muslims place of worship to intimidate worshippers; even going so far as to stalk them over the past months at mosques and places of business.
But they met with a surprise on Saturday. When they arrived at a Nation of Islam Mosque in South Dallas, according to the Dallas Morning News and found they were outnumbered by groups famous for protecting their own.
“This is an armed defense maneuver, making sure that our communities are safe and secure from any insurgents coming in,” Krystal Muhammad of the New Black Panther Party told Fox4last week. Muhammad was armed with a large shotgun. “We won’t allow anybody to come in and try to intimidate our brothers and sisters.”
The Nation of Islam was joined by the New Black Panthers and the Huey P. Newton Gun Club in its defense of the mosque. Continue reading →
*A statement from officials of the South By Southwest Festival (SXSW)shows them red-faced after a female Muslim athlete put them on social media BLAST following a request made by one of their volunteers.
lbtihaj Muhammad, an American Olympian, was asked to remove her hijab by a staffer at the event, and told she could not receive her badge until she did.
When Muhammad attempted to make them understand she wore the hijab for religious reasons, it made no difference to the volunteer.
*A 15-year-old girl from a “very religious family” is very pregnant and claiming that the child’s father is none other than Jesus.
I’ll give you a second to absorb that one…No seriously, go ahead.
And believe me, people have not taken this claim, made by 15-year-old Latifah Smith-Nabengana, lying down…so to speak.
The girl elaborates however, claiming that she was visited by an “Angel of God” in July 2015. That presence told her that she had been chosen to bear Christ’s son.
“He told me that he was a Nephilim, like those described in the Bible,” Smith-Nabengana explained. “He told me that he had a message from Jesus, He said that I was going to be pregnant, and that I would give birth to a son, Jesus’ son.”
Be still please. I am having audio-visual flashbacks over here…trying to figure how this may have sounded.
*Creflo Dollar, the popular televangelist, has his eye on a luxurious new private jet. Under the name Project G650, he has asked 200,000 of his followers to donate $300 each so he can buy it. And of course, God wants him to have the very best. Dollar heads the Georgia-based World Changers Church and he says the luxury jet is necessary so that he and his colleagues can travel the globe and preach the word. The preacher had an older plan previously, but it has been grounded.
Sounds like an expensive share. Now I get what one writer meant when he wrote, Negro please.
Dollar originally put the appeal on his Creflo Dollar Ministries’ website but changed its tone to reflect a Campaign once it was taken down.
“We believe it is time to replace this aircraft so that our Pastors and staff can continue to safely and swiftly share the Good News of the Gospel worldwide,” the copy read. Continue reading →
*I have a confession to make. I often have this movie clip running in my head where all of the heavenly deities are sitting around watching us humans and shaking their heads. I hear one lone voice plead, ‘Please stop using my name to excuse your wicked actions. They have nothing to do with me.” Case in point: During a fight in the State of Pennsylvania police say a man threw a “Jesus” vanity license plate at his older brother and cut him bad enough to require treatment by paramedics.
The plate reads, “You’ve got a friend in Jesus.” And moreover, its sealed with a “never expires.”
*Man, the more I hear news like this, the more I feel an obligation to warn people to stop looking at “pastors” as people without the capacity to be lowdown dirty dogs. Recognize that they, too, are only human; and as such, are capable of using their status…excuse me, misusing their status to commit evil. I repeat: They are only human, nothing more. Of course this may not be your pastor, but its somebody’s. Like the Canadian pastor who has been arrested after he sexually assaulted a woman he was performing an exorcism on.
Please tell me ya’ feel me.
Wayne Marlon Jones, 53, has been accused of the assault by Toronto police. It occurred sometime between May 2011 and May 2013. Jones was arrested last August, but according to the Toronto Sun, police have only now began to reach out to anyone who may know something as the investigation continues. Continue reading →
