*”…and a little child will lead them.”  Isaiah 11 : 6

I’m not one to quote scripture at the drop of a hat, but that one just dropped into my head.  Will somebody say “Amen!”

Most of us are hard-wired to think about what we can GET for our birthdays.  This doll I’m about to tell you about is showing us how it should be done.

Armani Crews was preparing for her sixth birthday.  While most of her kindergartener peers would have been looking forward to a celebration with their friends, she told her mom she wanted to feed the homeless instead.  She’d one day watched her older brother give leftovers to a homeless man, and a seed had been planted.

While her mom thought the request was different, she went along with it, and told Armani that they could hand out sandwiches.  Armani thought they could do better than that, and told her mom she wanted to serve exactly what she’d have had at her own party.

It’s at about that point of the story when I began associating the word “angel” with little Armani.

When Armani’s dad started adding up the financial cost of implementing his daughter’s plan, he told her that if she did that, she wouldn’t get any presents for her birthday.

Armani’s reply will melt your heart. Continue reading

L-R: Dionus M. Neely and his two daughters, 3-year-old Endia and 10-year-old Elle

*Chicago police chief Mitchell Davis  is calling the home invasion- murder of Dionus M. Neely, 39, and his two daughters, 3-year-old Endia and 10-year-old Elle, an act of “pure evil.” He also adds that the shootings, which took place in a Chicago suburb called Hazel Crest, were “targeted.”

“Anyone who could kill a 3-year-old and a 10-year-old, that’s pure evil as far as I’m concerned,” Davis said at a news conference Sunday.

The father and his daughters were asleep when the incident took place and Erin Neely, the children’s mother, and wife to Dionus, spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times about the incident. Continue reading

Starbucks Sued for Putting Too Much Ice in Iced Drinks

*Starbucks has been sued by a woman who claims that the coffee chain is deceiving customers by putting too much ice in their iced drinks.

I think I’m going to sue McDonalds for putting too much cheese on a cheeseburger.

Or maybe someone should sue God for putting too much time on this woman’s hands.

Stacy Pincus of Chicago has claimed that by advertising its cold drinks by fluid ounce, the figures are only accurate when ice is added to a drink.

Hence the term “ICED drink,” right? But stay with me.

“Starbuck is advertising the size of its Cold Drink cups on its menu, rather than the amount of fluid a customer will receive when they purchase a Cold Drink — and deceiving its customers in the process,” the lawsuit says.

For example, one of Starbucks Venti cold drinks — for the record, why can’t Starbucks just use Small, Medium, and Large? But that’s a talk for another time — is advertised as having 24 fluid ounces, but 10 of those ounces is ice in an iced drink.

Pincus’ lawsuit seeks over $5 million in damages. Continue reading

Whitney Young Magnet High School may have to charge students $500 for 7th period according to principal Joyce Kenner in a letter to her school’s community on Thursday, June 20, 2013.

The schools across America are either having budget problems or someone is mismanaging the heck out of the resources because we’ve already reported that the teachers are having to put money in the pot, but now the students?

Believe it or not, Michelle Obama’s alma mater, Chicago’s Whitney Young Magnet High School, may be forced to charge students $500 for a 7th period class if they want to take more than the required six classes.  The extreme measures were announced by the school’s principal Joyce Kenner on Thursday in a letter to parents, teachers and faculty to make up the just over $1 million in budget cuts the school is facing, according to the Huffington Post. The public school system of America has been in constant decline for a very long time.  Large cities have had to fight for their teacher’s jobs as well as keep schools open.  But none have been so embattled as the city of Chicago lately.

The protests to keep Chicago schools open began last weekend to keep the 54 schools Chicago’s city government slated to close from being shut down.  A ray of hope in the form of a third grader.  Nine-year-old Asean Johnson of Chicago’s Marcus Garvey Elementary, rose from the crowd to address the ills of the city’s decisions from the point-of-view of an elementary school student who will be directly affected, according to Jet Magazine. Shermain Miles has been arrested by Chicago Police 396 times since 1978.

Some people enjoy crime no matter the penalty that comes along with it.  But when you think of those kinds of people, you think of sick sociopaths that may be mentally ill that are serial killers or worse.

Well one Chicago woman, Shermain Miles, has given the term “repeat offender” brand new meaning.  Miles, 51, would be considered a real-life Madea with the complaints that some people have against her.  One person said she held them at gunpoint and even Chicago Alderman James Cappleman said she chased him down and she robbed a 75-year-old at knife point.
