*”…and a little child will lead them.” Isaiah 11 : 6
I’m not one to quote scripture at the drop of a hat, but that one just dropped into my head. Will somebody say “Amen!”
Most of us are hard-wired to think about what we can GET for our birthdays. This doll I’m about to tell you about is showing us how it should be done.
Armani Crews was preparing for her sixth birthday. While most of her kindergartener peers would have been looking forward to a celebration with their friends, she told her mom she wanted to feed the homeless instead. She’d one day watched her older brother give leftovers to a homeless man, and a seed had been planted.
While her mom thought the request was different, she went along with it, and told Armani that they could hand out sandwiches. Armani thought they could do better than that, and told her mom she wanted to serve exactly what she’d have had at her own party.
It’s at about that point of the story when I began associating the word “angel” with little Armani.
When Armani’s dad started adding up the financial cost of implementing his daughter’s plan, he told her that if she did that, she wouldn’t get any presents for her birthday.
*Chicago police chief Mitchell Davis is calling the home invasion- murder of Dionus M. Neely, 39, and his two daughters, 3-year-old Endia and 10-year-old Elle, an act of “pure evil.” He also adds that the shootings, which took place in a Chicago suburb called Hazel Crest, were “targeted.”
“Anyone who could kill a 3-year-old and a 10-year-old, that’s pure evil as far as I’m concerned,” Davis said at a news conference Sunday.
The father and his daughters were asleep when the incident took place and Erin Neely, the children’s mother, and wife to Dionus, spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times about the incident. Continue reading →
Hence the term “ICED drink,” right? But stay with me.
“Starbuck is advertising the size of its Cold Drink cups on its menu, rather than the amount of fluid a customer will receive when they purchase a Cold Drink — and deceiving its customers in the process,” the lawsuit says.
For example, one of Starbucks Venti cold drinks — for the record, why can’t Starbucks just use Small, Medium, and Large? But that’s a talk for another time — is advertised as having 24 fluid ounces, but 10 of those ounces is ice in an iced drink.
The schools across America are either having budget problems or someone is mismanaging the heck out of the resources because we’ve already reported that the teachers are having to put money in the pot, but now the students?
Believe it or not, Michelle Obama’s alma mater, Chicago’s Whitney Young Magnet High School, may be forced to charge students $500 for a 7th period class if they want to take more than the required six classes. The extreme measures were announced by the school’s principal Joyce Kenner on Thursday in a letter to parents, teachers and faculty to make up the just over $1 million in budget cuts the school is facing, according to the Huffington Post. The craziest behavior is happening around this country and world lately. It’s as though we’re subjected to an incessant full moon.
Xavier Guzman, 25, who also goes by “Lil Bin Laden,” was enraged on Father’s Day because his child’s mother would not allow him to see his child. Well, since, according to Guzman “somebody had to pay” he ran away from the woman’s home and got in his vehicle and just opened fire on some guys standing on the block, according to the Chicago Tribune.
He told police he became “enraged” and “wanted to take it out on someone,” the report said. Continue reading →
The public school system of America has been in constant decline for a very long time. Large cities have had to fight for their teacher’s jobs as well as keep schools open. But none have been so embattled as the city of Chicago lately.
The protests to keep Chicago schools open began last weekend to keep the 54 schools Chicago’s city government slated to close from being shut down. A ray of hope in the form of a third grader. Nine-year-old Asean Johnson of Chicago’s Marcus Garvey Elementary, rose from the crowd to address the ills of the city’s decisions from the point-of-view of an elementary school student who will be directly affected, according to Jet Magazine. Some people enjoy crime no matter the penalty that comes along with it. But when you think of those kinds of people, you think of sick sociopaths that may be mentally ill that are serial killers or worse.
Well one Chicago woman, Shermain Miles, has given the term “repeat offender” brand new meaning. Miles, 51, would be considered a real-life Madea with the complaints that some people have against her. One person said she held them at gunpoint and even Chicago Alderman James Cappleman said she chased him down and she robbed a 75-year-old at knife point. Continue reading →
There are very strange weather patterns going on throughout the country this spring. The rain and snow that has descended upon the Midwest is causing some serious damage.
On Chicago’s Southeast side, three cars were swallowed by a sinkhole this morning. The street where the sinkhole occurred is in a normal residential neighborhood at 96th and Houston. One man was already inside his car possibly preparing to go to work when he and his car descended into the massive hole. So far, there has been 5 inches of rainwater in the city just this morning and many schools have been closed due to flooding, according to Headline News. Other residents are dealing with flooded basements this morning. Continue reading →
