The Grey Goose family decided to give an Oprah-like dinner to kick off the Oscars.  The women got together and talked about their mentors and of course enjoyed the drinks.  Taraji Henson and Halle Berry raved about the ginger pear martinis.  Aisha Tyler, Audra MacDonald and Angela Bassett came in as dinner was served and joined right in.  The ladies were stunning for a night of camaraderie and fun. It appears that the jig is up in America.  The scammers like Bernard Madoff (his having the most far reaching effects) have had the curtain pulled back on all of their dealings.  The latest to be taken down is billionaire banker R. Allen Stanford. U.S. Marshalls came down on Stanford Financial Group and shut it down on Tuesday.  Stanford turned in his passport to show he wasn’t a flight risk. (more…)

Monkeying Around With Racism In America

By now, you’ve probably heard every version imaginable about the blatantly racist caricature featured in the NY Post.  There’s no way of explaining their way out of it.  They merely need to take ownership of what they have done and:  (a) close their doors  (b) send an open letter of apology to Obama and people of color (c) shut their doors.

It’s probably not likely that they will shut their doors, but what I, for one,  would like to see this incident bring forth is the issue of patriotism.  Forever, African Americans have been treated like third class citizens in the country that our ancestors built.  (more…)

Tim Alexander’s Diary Of A Tired Black Man is described  as a film that explores the “complex” nature of black female and male relationships. This is at least what it says on the Amazon.com description page:

A fascinating story about the complex relationships between Black Men and Black Women.

I examined the film myself and I kept asking a single question –  Why is it that in 2009 the films that keep coming out of the black community still delve into the belly lint of our culture? Forgive me, I realize there are people who still find the black men/black women relationships issue to be important, but this culture as well as others have more pressing issues at hand to discuss. NAACP Celebrates 100 Years with Black Films

The NAACP has partnered with Twentieth Century Fox and MGM Home Entertainment to celebrate Black History month and their 100th year anniversary with a customized Black History collection of films.  The collection includes 77 titles and 22 of these films have been selected to receive unique DVD faceplates that highlight key themes in African-American heritage including those of Determination, Pride, Entertainment and Success.
