*You can count this as one of the most bizarre things you will EVER read on this site. And as you know, we’ve had some real doozies. But as we always ask, does that make it any less true? A medical journal in Britain recently released news on a case study where a woman went in for a simple eye surgery, to remove cataracts, and the operating doctor found something she and her team were definitely NOT looking for: contact lenses.
Wait…not “On my goodness, you forgot to remove your contact lenses today” contact lenses…But wait! You have one. Two. Three. Four….17 contact lenses on one eyeball.

The “surgery” hadn’t even began before the doctor, Rupal Morjaria, had extracted a total of 27 single contact lenses from one of the patients eyes.

As you can imagine, the case — which was published July 5 in the British Medical Journal — made international headlines after Dr. Morjaria, an ophthalmologist, spoke to the media recently.
?None of us have ever seen this before,? Morjaria told Optometry Today,” about the ?blue mass? she and her team had extracted from the 67-year-old patients eye in round one.
?It was such a large mass. All the 17 contact lenses were stuck together. We were really surprised that the patient didn?t notice it because it would cause quite a lot of irritation while it was sitting there.?
The Sacramento Bee article reports the patient, who doesn’t regularly visit the eye doctor, had been wearing monthly disposable contacts for 35 years. They say she attributed the discomfort she felt in her eye to old age and dry eyes.
See? Self diagnosis. We have GOT to do better, people!
?She was quite shocked,? Morjaria said. ?When she was seen two weeks after I removed the lenses she said her eyes felt a lot more comfortable.?
27 contact lenses in somebody’s eye. And they are just feeling “discomfort?”
