*Just because its a cliche doesn’t make it any less true. And just because it deals with race, doesn’t make it racist…or in Black folk reality, prejudiced. Take the whole “Black Don’t Crack” thing. Here we’ve gathered pictures of people you would know; folks who are the same age (or close enough), but of two different races: one Black, the other Caucasian and wow, just look at how they’ve aged.
Some of these folks may have had, as we say in Hollywood terms, “a little work done,” but I am sure you can tell who that may apply to here.
If nothing else, the photos (and granted, none of us look like we used to…some of us better, others not!) show how your lifestyle can definitely affect your physical appearance.
First up, actor Mickey Rourke, age 64, actor and boxer.
Now, he doesn’t look bad here, but I pulled one of the better ones. If you google images you can see, Mickey has NOT aged well.
So I did a comparison to an actor near his age, of African American descent, and found Delroy Lindo, 63. below.
Mr. Lindo, even with the hat, has a healthier appearance, in my opinion. I doubt a year makes that much difference. Moving on…
You may remember Mark Hamill, 65. He was the original Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars film series.
Hmm…OK. Who can we find in his age range, of African American descent? I know, let’s go a little older say…Samuel L. Jackson, 67.
Not that you even needed a picture because Sam is still EVERYWHERE! If not in a film, he’s doing commercials or voiceovers. But even two years older than Hamill, let’s just say if you didn’t know…you wouldn’t know.
Now I wouldn’t want you to think I’m being sexist. Let’s get some women in the picture! Ha! No pun intended.
First up, Phylicia Rashad, 68.
Ms. Rashad I will keep it simple: I want to be you when I’m 68!
Hey! Former ‘All in the Family’ alum Sally Struthers, is only a year older at 69. Let’s see what we find…
Uh oh. I’m not exactly sure WHAT to say here so I’mma do like mama used to say: shut up!
Kathleen Turner. Oh, I loved her in ‘Romancing the Stone’ (1984)! At 62-years-young, let’s see how she fared.
Not bad! But wait…there’s a footnote. Ms. Turner suffered some kind of illness and says “I don’t look like I did, get over it!” I think she was referring to her sexy 1980’s image (below).
Hey girl, I just want to say that I, for one, am feelin’ you. Like I said earlier, none of us do. And in my eyes, you don’t look bad at all!
So, let’s just get over it and put you next to…let’s see, ooh I’ve got it, she’s a year older but, let’s get Alfre Woodard, 63.
OK. I know you’re thinking, no fair. But I tried hard-as-hell to find a photo where this woman is not gorgeous. You’re both wearing make up; got your hair all done so this is the best, or worse, I could do.
Oh damn. Johnny Depp. Now y’all know I love me some Johnny Depp. But that might be past tense now since I heard he is an alleged abuser of women; and I don’t play that! But you haven’t been charged formally, Johnny, so…
Still, at 53, you’re younger than those mentioned in this group so far, so let’s see what we’ve got.
OK. You don’t look bad at all, Johnny. Just aged. And that is, after all, what this article is about. So let’s put you next to a brutha colleague who’s two years older. You might know him, his name is Eddie Murphy and he’s 55.
OH my! I don’t think I need to use my words here.
And finally, I was once an actress so let’s get a little dramatic! Let’s pick two people, women, TWENTY YEARS APART, and see what each looks like today.
Do you remember Lara Flynn Boyle? Oh c’mon, didn’t you guys watch series TV? She was the D.A. in ‘The Practice’. She was also in a lot of films including ‘Men in Black II’. Anyway, she’s 46. Here she is.
I swear, I didn’t know. And there is a part of me that does not want to put her up against anyone. But I hate to leave things half done so…here’s Debbie allen at 63…almost twenty years older than Lara.
Well damn. Gorgeous must run in the family! I was sure she wouldn’t be THIS fine. But alas, I was wrong.
Hey ladies, and fellas too, I’ll tell you what. No matter how age may impact us, we are a mighty force. And let’s not forget it!
