A Giant grocery store guard has been charged with assault after a transgender woman says she put her hands on her as she attempted to use the women’s restroom.

Ebony Belcher, 32, was in the D.C. store with a friend when she asked an employee to point her towards the restroom. Along the way Belcher passed a female security officer.

Belcher says the officer followed her into the restroom and told her she had to leave.

“She opened the door and came in and started calling me derogatory names,” Belcher said.

She said the officer put her hand on her shoulder and arm, grabbed her and pushed her out of the store.

According to Belcher, who spoke with News4‘s Jackie Bensen, the guard, who has been identified as name is Francine Jones, told her, “You guys cannot keep coming in here and using our women’s restroom. They did not pass the law yet.”

Belcher told the reporter that she did call the police following the incident, and a police report confirms that Jones was arrested.

Giant issued a statement, which read: “As this matter involves a third party that provides security services for Giant and there’s an ongoing criminal investigation, all inquiries related to the incident at the H Street Giant should be directed to the local police for a comment at this time.”

North Carolina passed a controversial law saying transgender people must use public restrooms that correspond with the sex on their birth certificate.

And of all the people to take issue with the stance of N. C., Donald Trump does.

“There have been very few complaints the way it is,” Mr. Trump said. “People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate. There has been so little trouble, and the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife and the economic punishment that they’re taking. So I would say that’s probably the best way.”

Asked by host Matt Lauer to clarify if he would be fine with celebrity Caitlyn Jenner, a transgender woman, using the women’s restrooms at Trump Tower, the businessman said, “That is correct.”
