*An Atlanta man went into a bedroom in his girlfriends house, saw her gay son lying in bed with his boyfriend, and threw boiling hot water on them both.
Now the authorities are said to be considering filing hate crime charges against 48-year-old Martin Blackwell, who is being held in Fulton County jail without bond.
According to what Blackwell told police about the incident, which happened in February, he was so “disgusted” by the men’s relationship that he threw “just a little hot water” on them.
I am still wondering why the police are only CONSIDERING pressing hate crime charges. This is a hate crime if ever I saw one.
WSB-TV Atlanta reports that Anthony Gooden is the son of Blackwell’s girlfriend. And he, Blackwell and his mother all live together in an apartment on Buffington Road.
It seems Gooden’s partner got the brunt of the painful experience. Marquez Tolbert spent 10 days in Grady Hospital recovering from surgeries due to the 2nd and 3rd degree burns he suffered on his neck, back and arms. Doctors had to graph skin from his thighs to replace what was burned from those other areas.
After being released from the hospital, Tolbert tearfully told Channel 2 Action News:
“The pain doesn’t let you sleep. It’s just like it’s excruciating 24 hours a day, and it doesn’t go anywhere. It doesn’t dial down, anything. It’s just there.”
He also described what happened on that dreadful day.
“Martin pulled me up and said, ‘Get out of my house with all that gay,’” Tolbert said. “I couldn’t stop screaming.”
Thanks to the LGBT liaison at the Atlanta Police Department, who most likely worked overtime to right this wrong, Blackwell was denied bond.
Being this ignorant should be considered a crime.
