*He might think of it as retribution, but I doubt it’s going to give him any pleasure once he’s behind bars. I’m talking about Pierre Stokes, the 25-year old father of 9-year-old TyShawn Lee — the boy who was murdered on November 2, 2015. Police believe TyShawn was killed as a retaliatory act in light of his father’s alleged gang lifestyle.
Tyshawn was a fourth grade student at Joplin Elementary School, when he was lured into an alley in the 8000 block of South Damen Avenue with the promise of being taken to a store, where he would be able to buy anything he wanted.
Instead, the little boy who always carried a basketball, was shot repeatedly once they reached the alley near his grandmother’s house. The basketball lay next to him.
Now TyShawn’s father has been charged with the attempted murder of three people in connection with the boy’s murder. And one of the victims is the girlfriend of a man charged in the boy’s murder.
The shootings took place in Chicago on Tuesday. And in addition to the woman, Stokes shot two men.
But all three victims survived their injuries.
Corey Morgan, 30, and Dwright Boone-Doty, 31,both gang members, were charged with the boy’s murder.
It was Morgan’s 29-year-old girlfriend who Stokes allegedly shot on the same day that Cook County prosecutors revealed Stokes was cooperating in the investigation into his son’s death.
TyShawn’s murder was reportedly a revenge killing for the gang-related murder of Morgan’s brother, Tracey Morgan, in October.
The Chicago Tribute reports Boone-Doty had told police he conducted surveillance on Tyshawn’s grandmother and planned to kill her in an effort to draw out rival gang members, including Pierre Stokes.
Stokes is reportedly a member of the Killa Ward faction of the Gangster Disciples.
Corey Morgan was overheard saying he was targeting “grandmas, mamas, kids and all” to avenge his brother’s death.
Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Kevin Edwards, the third suspect in Tyshawn’s killing. He is believed to be hiding out in Iowa.
