*As the world ramps up for the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice and the introduction of Wonder Woman on the silver screen, Jazmin Truesdale has released her second graphic novel featuring a universe of culturally diverse female superheroes.
TNT profiled Truesdale last fall as she was launching her Aza universe. She promised us more from her diverse band of women in the months that followed.
And she’s delivered.
“I interviewed 75 women asking them why they didn’t read comics,” Truesdale told me. “Their answers ranged from the story lines were too short, didn’t give enough backstory, the characters weren’t three dimensional, lack of diversity, or sexist illustrations.”
“For this reason,” she continued, “I created this book — specifically targeting women. Women like superheroes. They just can’t identify because superheroes — even female ones — are not marketed to them.”
Truesdale’s second novel is now available here, as well as on Google and iBooks. Her five major characters represent the world’s five major ethnic groups. One of them is visually inspired by superstar Janet Jackson!
Truesdale may be targeted girls and women with her expanding universe, but I’ll be checking it out!
