*Though it is only a bandage on a wound that will not be healed anytime soon, one family may be able to take some solace in the fact that the four men who harrassed and ultimately killed their loved one, has been ordered by a judge to pay restitution.

The Justice Department ordered Deryl Paul Dedmon, John Aaron Rice, Dylan Wade Butler and William Kirk Montgomery, each of whom were convicted and sentenced to prison, to pay restitution in the amount of $840,000 in connection with the killing of James Craig Anderson, the 49-year-old victim of a series of hate crimes committed by them.

The four men were convicted in 2012, of violating the “Matthew Shepard” and “James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Act.” You may recall, teen Matthew Shepherd’s death was the result of a homophobic hate crime; while the death of James Byrd, Jr., a 49-year-old black man, was racially motivated when he was dragged at the rear of a pickup truck driven by three white men.

The men in this case targeted Anderson in the parking lot of a motel in Jackson, Miss. Then two of them brutally beat him, and another hit him with his pickup truck.

You will no longer have to look up the word “Savages” — just refer to the description above moving forward.

This same group of men is said to have gone on a rampage, attacking African Americans who appear homeless or intoxicated, because it is assumed they won’t be missed.

A statement released by Vanita Gupta, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division reads,  “When these defendants committed this brutal hate crime they not only took a man’s life, they also hurt a family.” It continues, “Although no amount of money will ever be able to account for the true value of James Craig Anderson’s life, we hope that this restitution will help ease the burden on his family.”

Deryl Dedmon, 19, got life in prison although he was known as the driver, yet pleaded not guilty.

If you wonder how an amount is reached in situations such as this, the department says via the statement, it represents lost future wages Anderson would have used to support his family if he had lived, according to the statement.

Now the question remains…with these four white supremists locked up (and even if they were not) do they have this kind of money? Will Anderson’s family be guaranteed to get it?

Or is this just on paper?

Where will this money come from? I’ve got a suggestion: The family of these men should pay via a levy of bank accounts, salaries and wages, retirement and pensions.

This will send a strong message to these racist, ignorant, white trash motherfuckers who still believe its OK to take the life of someone because of their skin color.

Our sincere condolensces to the family of James Craig Anderson.
