*Hey, African Americans may have stayed away by the hundreds on Sunday as The 88th Academy Awards took place at The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. And they may have been all over social media during and after the show — calling host Chris Rock all kinds of names.
But in the midst of all the judgement y’all might be putting down on Rock; don’t forget to add: Because of his efforts, a girl scout troop in Inglewood is more than $65K richer.
Uh huh. If you’re going to tell it. Tell it true!
Everything that went down at the Oscars wasn’t seen on the screen. So while the commercials were playing, no one heard Chris Rock asking people like Leonardo DiCaprio to dig into his $30 million dollar pockets and hand what he pulls out to the little girl in the Girl Scouts outfit coming up the aisle.
“I want you to reach into your millionaire pockets and I want you to buy some of my daughters’ girl scout cookies,” Oscars host Chris Rock told the celebrities. “Alright, Tina Fey, get that money, girl. Charlize Theron, yes. Matt Damon, yes. Leo, you made $30 million. Come on!”
Rock used the line that he was raising money for his daughter’s Girl Scout Troop, but as it turns out, that was just a line.
The money went to the Inglewood Girl Scouts Troop where 10 little girls who ran up and down the aisles, grabbing cash and handing out boxes of Samoas and Thin Mints was based.
According to Rock, the girls collected a whopping $65,243.
On Monday, Girl Scout officials confirmed that all of that cookie dough would go to the Inglewood troop and supporting Girl Scout programs in the Greater Los Angeles area.
“Chris Rock’s daughters are Girl Scouts in New York, and he was quite aware it was Girl Scout cookie season,” said Kenya Yarbrough, director of marketing at Girl Scouts’ Greater Los Angeles branch. “The money is going to the Inglewood troop. We’re working with the team on the final count.”
Good job, Chris Rock! As you are well aware, to whom much is given, MORE is expected.
