Ethan Couch, the wealth-laden Caucasian teen who got off with a slap on the wrist after killing four people in a drunk driving accident and leaving another paralyzed two years ago at age 16, has landed in hot water. Well, he hasn’t landed yet…because nobody knows where he is.
However, a warrant has been issued for his arrest because he failed to show up to a check-point meeting with his probation officer earlier this month, and even his father claims he has no idea where his son, who was living with his mother (who is also missing) has disappeared to.
Couch, 18, was charged as a juvenile. He was subsequently at the beginnings of a 10-year probation. His punishment for the crime after his lawyer used the so-called ‘“Affluenza Defense‘ that argued the teen was “too rich and too spoiled” to know right from wrong and that his parents did not make him adhere to the boundaries the rest of us are held accountable for.
Even today, people say that Couch never appeared remorseful for what he did. And his actions shown in this latest stunt (read on) certainly prove this assessment.
Authorities fear the teen used his unlimited resources to leave the country, according to what Tarrant County Sheriff, Dee Anderson told WFAA. Couch and his mother, Tonya, have been gone for several days now.
“We’re working every angle we can work,” said Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson. “I’ve got a bunch of my fugitive guys working on it.”
Anderson said if he had a top 10 most wanted list, Couch would be No. 1.

It is believed the recent release of a video on Twitter spooked the teen and his mother, and influenced their decision to run. The video appears to show Couch watching friends play a game of Beer Pong – which, if he actually participated would be a direct violation of his probation. And according to the ABC News video report below, the now 18-year-old was set to be tested for drugs and alcohol at the meeting he missed.
Teens and money can be a dangerous combo. Couch’s millionaire parents allowed their son to have an extended stay, alone, in their 4,000 sq. foot mansion when he was just 16. It was during that time that he got behind the wheel, drunk, and killed four people.
And while we can sit and name dozens of folks who are sitting in jail right now for doing much less, Ethan Couch never spent ONE DAY there. And it is this type of privilege, white, wealthy, cocky AND irresponsible that really pisses people off.
Talking to both WFAA and ABC News, Sheriff Anderson does not even attempt to hide his resentment of having to spend taxpayer money “and my other resources” to chase this teen down. Though it probably won’t hold a candle to the amount that the Couch family must’ve paid out in order to keep their son free.
“He had a good amount of time to get a good head start,” the sheriff said Wednesday. “And we all know what kind of resources this family has to get out of town. Get out of the country. Who knows?”
Anderson vows to catch this teen and make him serve some sense of justice.
I guess only time will show us what that will look like.
