*My god. This is a worse-case-scenario for any parent who pays a childcare facility to watch their child. The parent arrives to find the facility closed for the day, but their child has been forgotten inside.
But it happened. At a daycare facility we can only assume is licensed, but then again, maybe not — since a similar incident is said to have happened in the past at this same facility.
Even after the Monday night incident, where police officers had been called by the father of a 1-year-old toddler who had been left behind, crying and crawling on the floor of the All Things are Possible for Kids daycare, the facility opened for business as usual the following day.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is said to be holding an investigation.
Cornelius Jones, the child’s father, had arrived to pick her up from the daycare and found all the doors locked. But he heard his child crying inside, and called police, who broke into the place and saw the little girl crawling on the floor, crying.
“It was pitch black and like, the police had flashlights down and the only thing I could see was my baby crawling on the floor,” Jones said.
“It was a dramatic feeling. I didn’t know what to feel like, my heart dropped. I was just glad she was okay,” said the father of 1-year-old Journee.
Journee’s mother, Quanesha Borum, arrived just after the child was found.
“My heart dropped, dropped. Like, wow. The last thing I expected to happen, happened,” Borum said.
The little girl didn’t appear to be hurt otherwise. And is now home, happy and playing.
Both parents took off work the next day, to stay home with their child.
A previous incident at the facility rests on a parent, who had not been picked up, and the child was taken home by a daycare worker.
Journee’s mother, whose child had only been going to the facility for a week prior to the incident, did not hold back in her feelings on what the fate of the facility should be as a result of what happened with her child.
“I honestly think they should shut it down, because if they can’t keep an eye on her, they can’t keep an eye on the other kids,” she said.
