*Many of us may wonder what it is exactly that makes us do some of the things we do. I mean, we know there are mind altering drugs, so we know that when people delve into that world, their mind is going to be … well, altered. And they are probably going to do things they wouldn’t otherwise do.
Then there are the actions of the parents of adults in this story. The parents who decided to release a video (scroll down) showing their adult son and his friend, both high on a cocktail of drugs, accelerated the car they were driving up to speeds of 90 miles per hour, before crashing it into a concrete wall that killed them both instantly.
Nevertheless, the parents did.
Their son was Michael Owen, the young father of a five-year-old girl named Lily Rose Iris Owen. You hear him in the video (scroll down) saying, “you’re doing 90 boy, slow down.”
Those were his last words. They were spoken to the unlicensed driver and pal who lost control of the car.
Owens, 21, captured the terrifying ride as Kyle Careford, 20, sped down the road at 90 mph in his passengers red Renault Clio before the tragic end.
After downing an assortment of both prescription and illegal drugs, the two men jumped in the car, egging each other on as they performed “doughnuts” on the road.
Owens may have been giving his friend a driving lesson, but the two can be heard rapping and laughing in the car prior to Owens telling the driver to slow down. After that, in the wee hours of the morning on April 12, the camera cuts out.
The coroner recorded a verdict for both men of death by road traffic collision.
He also played the footage which was found on the phone laying underneath a tree near the scene of their deaths.
Speaking after the inquest, Michael’s mother Kat said: “We bring our children up teaching them right from wrong.
“We guide them and give them our advice and hope they listen, but once they are adults we hope they make the right choices.
“I really don’t know why the boys chose to do what they did, but I blame them both for the decisions they made on this night.
“If all this stops one person from making the same mistake, then some good has come from showing this video. “
And that’s why these parents decided to do what they did. Proving that it takes tremendous compassion and courage, when you are at the lowest points in life, to step up and think of someone else.
Be warned: The video below is extremely graphic.
