*In the words of the late Desi Arnez, Jr., “Lucy, you’ve got some ‘splainin’ to do!” But its not the crazy redhead we’re concerned with here, its MMA fighter Benny Madrid, who got so caught up in his big win over the past weekend, he chose to publicly thank what appeared to be two very special people: his wife and his girlfriend.
The ‘Wow!’ moment came after Madrid defeated Jeff Fletcher at the World Series of Fighting 23. It only took 1:26 minutes for him to use a rear choke submission (see photo below) to finisher Fletcher off before “El Hijo” was declared the winner.
Excited and obviously feeling himself, the fighter went into public speaker-mode and couldn’t help but thank the women in his life, namely his wife and his girlfriend.
“Thank you everyone who believed in me … my wife and girlfriend,” Madrid said. In addition to a few other spicy words.
Whoa! By the time he caught what had just come out of his mouth, it was too late to elaborate in that particular forum. But the fighter did get to do so on Sports Illustrated’s Facebook page, where he clarified:
“Lol it’s my girlfriend/fiancé that’s going to be my wife.. Was caught up in the moment,” he said. And you’d better believe the 36-year-old tagged his fiancee Tracy Cortez in the posts.
The victory broke his three-fight losing streak so its an understandably anxious moment. Here’s the video!
