*Many of us get them, and we’ve all seen them: the Amber Alerts that pop up on our smart phones to let us know that a child is missing.
This story should convince you once and for all, not to ignore them moving forward, because your involvement could actually help.
Courtney Best was on a cigarette break from her job at Papa Murphy’s pizza shop in Corpus Christi when the alert popped up on her phone.
“I usually don’t even look at Amber Alerts, as bad as that sounds. I look at them, and I don’t really pay attention,” she told KRIS TV in her hometown Texas.
But on this day, instead of taking her smoke-break in the back as usual, she took it in front of the pizza shop. And now I know the family of this little boy is so happy she did.
Best noticed a white Dodge Avenger pull into the parking lot.
“I stepped outside, I was standing by the trashcan, and I [saw] a white car pull up, and I just happened to take my phone with me, ’cause we don’t look at our phones at work, and I looked down and I saw ‘white Dodge Avenger Amber Alert,’ and I was like, ‘Nah, that’s not him,’” she told the TV station.
The abducted boy was 7-year-old Nicolas Gomez.
“The man was walking across the parking lot looking at me,” said Best, who added,”… ’cause I was the only person out here.” “[He was with] the little boy, and the little boy looked scared, and I was like, ‘no, that’s not him.'”
But it WAS him!
When the man and the kid went inside a Dollar Store, Best got in her car and drove over to the white Dodge Avenger to check out the license plate. It was then and there that she noticed it was the one in question and called the police.
She told the cops what street the suspect was turning on, and within minutes, he was arrested and little Nicolas Gomez was returned home safely.
Happy smiles all around. This could’ve ended so badly. Kudos to you, Courtney Best….you ARE the best!!!
