*Well, it looks like the Confederate flag is about to be removed from the South Carolina state capitol; and companies such as Walmart, Amazon, Etsy and eBay announced that they are no longer selling Confederate flag merchandise in a move motivated by the killing of nine people in Charleston, South Carolina, after a racist gunman was seen in photos with the flag.
So why did Chuck Netzhammer from Louisiana still need an explanation as to why Walmart refused his request for a Confederate flag cake at one of its bakeries?
Maybe its because they turned right around and approved one for a design with the ISIS flag on it.
Netzhammer claims he had ordered the image of the Confederate flag on a cake with the words, “Heritage Not Hate,” on Thursday at a Slidell, Louisiana Walmart. But the bakery refused the order. Later on he returned to order another cake. This one bearing the image of the ISIS flag, a flag that represents the terrorist group.
And this order was fulfilled.
“I went back yesterday and managed to get an ISIS battleflag printed, Netzhammer said. “ISIS happens to be somebody who we’re fighting against right now who are killing our men and boys overseas and are beheading Christians.”
As it turns out, the Walmart associate who fulfilled the order, is said to have done so in error. He or she simply didn’t realize what the image was, which, quite honestly, is not hard to believe.
According to ABC News, a spokesman for Walmart said, “An associate in a local store did not know what the design meant and made a mistake. The cake should not have been made and we apologize,” said the spokesman.
But Netzhammer, who one has to wonder why he would take such an image into the bakery anyway, decided to have a little fun with the retailers embarrassing mistake and posted a video on YouTube (Scroll down to see it) with the cake explaining, “That’s an ISIS battleflag cake that anybody can go buy at Walmart. But you can’t buy a Confederate flag toy, with like, say, a ‘Dukes of Hazzards’ car.”
Walmart went on to say via a statement put out after the ban last week,
“We never want to offend anyone with the products that we offer. We have taken steps to remove all items promoting the Confederate flag from our assortment — whether in our stores or on our web site.”
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called for the removal of the Confederate flag from the state capitol in Columbia after the church massacre. she was commended by president Barack Obama, when he gave the eulogy for pastor Clementa Pinckney; one of the fallen church members.
Here’s the video of this guy grandstanding. But before you watch, imagine you are the employee that filled the order, do you see how one might now know that this was an ISIS Flag symbol or nah?
