*Well, excuse my French.
But if this ain’t a mutha-fuh-ya, I don’t know what is.
The short end of the story is, Caucasian attorney and former Virginia House delegate Joe Morrissey, 57, who was once disbarred and even lost his freedom for the crime of “contributing to the delinquency of a minor,” called the media together for a press conference where he admitted to being the baby-daddy of 19-year-old Myrna Pride‘s 2-1/2-month-old son, Chase.
Pride sat by Morrissey’s side at the event, and chimed in on at least two occasions of the (edited) clip (scroll down to see it). Once, when she stated their sexual relationship did not happen before she was of legal age; and then again as she supported his claim that “age is not a factor in their ‘relationship.'”
Which makes believing their claims that he waited until she was of age, a real stretch of the imagination.
By the latest calculations, Morrissey now has four children by four different women.
He appeared nervous during the press conference; especially when a reporter asked him if he planned on marrying Pride.
After seconds of evading the question, and imparting information that had absolutely nothing to do with it, he said,
“I love Myrna. She’s smart. She’s intelligent. She makes me laugh. I think she makes me a better person.”
Then, as she continued to stare at him, he finally added,
“Of course we’re going to get married.” Morrissey sounded about as believable as a snake promising not to bite.
Pride once worked as a receptionist, in Morrissey’s law firm. That is how the two first met. Morrissey, a criminal attorney known in the courtroom as “Fightin’ Joe,” always maintained that the explicit photos found on his cellphone by law enforcement had been hacked there.
He confirmed on Wednesday that his relationship with Pride blossomed from friendship to intimacy while Pride worked at his law office. But added that it was not before she turned 18.
Morrissey, who said his girlfriend wants more kids with him, says he and Pride share a home with their 2-year-old son, Chase, in Richmond.
The press conference was supposedly set up by Morrissey to clear the air about his relationship with the teen; admit he is the father of their baby, and apparently, promise to marry the girl.
The legislator served three months on a work-release sentence (that actually coincided with the 2015 legislative session) in Henrico County’s Regional Jail East in New Kent County for his inappropriate relationship with Pride; who was said to be 17 at the time the photos were discovered.
While complying with the work-release sentence, Morrissey spent his days in the legislature and his nights sleeping in a jail cell.
Upon his release from jail, he sounded upbeat in a telephone interview with one reporter, saying,
“I feel great. Time flew by. It went very smoothly.”
Now awaiting trial on four felony counts in a separate but related case, Morrissey says, “I can’t wait to get our side out there. I’m anxious to move onto that,” he said.
Morrissey also reaffirmed his plans to run for the state Senate as an independent. He had previously resigned his House seat two times over the past six months. In December, when he took an Alford plea on a misdemeanor charge stemming from an accusation that he had sex with Pride before her 18th birthday, and then again in March, to make this Senate run.
He was initially set to run as a Democrat, but was denied ballot access by Party officials after the local registrar declared some 750 signatures he collected for the run invalid, putting him 28 short of the 250 he needed.
Morrissey sounds like a real piece of work. I could say much more, but I’ll leave it at that — only adding, the teen’s parents don’t believe Morrissey and Pride’s story on when the sexual relationship began either.
Here’s the video of the press conference. We welcome your thoughts on why you think Morrissey REALLY came out and admitted to this paternity now. And do you think he will really marry this girl?
