*There’s something to be said when an educator loses her cool in front of an entire graduating class audience. Not to say it can’t happen, but on the rare occasion that it does, it may be the slip of a curse-word; or a teacher yelling for a student to “stop acting like a child!”
Which makes the tirade by the founder of TNT Academy – a high school near Stone Mountain, Georgia, so outstanding. I mean this woman went on and on. And when no one appeared to be paying her any attention at all, she lost it and called out, “Look who’s leaving, all the black people!”
Not exactly, my dear.
It all started when Nancy Gordeuk dismissed the senior class in error, before the valedictorian had given his speech. Once she realized what had happened, she attempted to get the crowd of students, friends and family members back into the auditorium.
No easy task to say the least.
So what did she do? She started reprimanding them; saying a little of this and a little of that; each insult growing stronger than the last. Until she finally noticed a group of students leaving and made the racist remark.
The auditorium, which was already noisy, got even louder – and at one point you hear a man off camera ask, “Are you recording this?” and a woman answers “Yes.”
The momentum picks up with people voicing their disapproval of Gordeuk’s remark; and people start to leave in droves…and it was not just the black people.
Speaking with NBC, Gordeuk, who later apologized for her remarks, told the media,
“When I looked up all I saw was black families leaving, and thus the comment,” she said.
“Frustrated with the prospect of ruining the once-in-a-lifetime ceremony the graduates have worked so hard for, my emotions got the best of me and that is when I blurted out ‘you people are being so rude to not listen to this speech,’” Gordeuk wrote in an apology letter. “I deeply apologize for my actions made in the emotional state of trying to let this last student finish his speech,” she wrote.
This behavior is such a sad reality. The fact that the first thing that comes to a person’s mind in anger, is race.
Do you think this country will ever be able to put this issue aside? Or will it take many generations to die off first?
I sure do hope so, but it doesn’t look too good.
