*Good lord. We thought we’d heard it all, but apparently we’ve still got a ways to go.
Ever hear the one about the farmer who had a stomach ache. Went to the doctor. Only to discover he had hundreds of coins, nails and other objects removed from his belly.
No, well it true.
An Indian farmer named Rajpal Singh had to have an endoscopy, which revealed hundreds of objects inside his stomach, according to Caters photo agency.
And the weird finding took two operations to be removed. All in all doctors at R Gagan Gastrocare removed 140 coins, 150 nails and a handful of nuts, bolts and batteries.
Singh admitted to Caters,”I used to gulp down coins and metals with fruit juice or milk.”
“Due to family problems I had slipped into depression and got hooked onto this weird habit.”
Baby, weird doesn’t even begin to describe it.
Singh said he knows his habit could have killed him.
“Doctors have told me those sharp needles would have punctured my intestine and I would have eventually died,” he said. “I feel much more relaxed now. I am never going to do this again.”
The nine-plus-hours operations took a team of five doctors, led by Dr. Gandeep Goyal.
“The patient came to us with severe stomach pain,” Goyal said. “When we did the endoscopy, we were shocked to see so many foreign bodies, including coins and needles in his stomach.”
The doctors couldn’t get all of the objects out in one surgery; which is why two was required.
