*New York City apartment living is no joke. The rents might be “too damn high” but that doesn’t block out the noise. And that noise can be a child screaming at the top of her lungs; an Italian mother yelling at someone over the phone or a couple having sex so loud you swear their bed is going to fall right through the ceiling.
Its the latter that were concerned with here – along with one-hundred-thirty-three tenants at 7201 Ridge Blvd. in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn; who have each dialed the cops to report the noise.
Now you can look at this one of two ways: Either those calling are haters because they’re apparently not gettin’ any; or you can be more compassionate and understanding of their plight.
According to DNAinfo, residents of the six-story apartment building made 133 calls to New York City’s 311 line between January and February of 2015 to complain about the loud sex. And between October and December, residents made over 300 complaints about the same thing. Apparently, most of those boisterous encounters occurred during the wee hours of the morning.
“Neighbors are having very loud sex with the windows open that can be heard throughout the whole bldg.,” one person said in a complaint filed at 4:40 a.m. on Nov. 14.
“I’m not sure what they were doing, but the woman was moaning and screaming, ‘Oh yeah, oh, do it to me,” another resident complained. “I’m not a prude but there are kids in the building, and it was just a ridiculously loud amount of noise being made that the first time another woman yelled out her window, ‘Shut your f–ing windows you whore!’”
Though neighbors say the couple’s noise level cooled down during the winter months, that didn’t last long because it heated back up once the snow melted a few weeks ago. And according to the New York Daily News, whenever the cops arrived, they were too late to witness the loud disturbances. Residents of the 59-unit building singled out one particular couple as the troublemakers.
“They go in all places in the apartment: the bedroom, the living room” said Siddahart Shah, 29, who lives one floor below the lovers. “You can hear it. A lot of moaning, the woman mostly.”
Shah, however, says that he has learned to deal with it.
“They are having a good time,” said the college student. “It’s normal. I just ignore it now.”
The 25-year-old male in the relationship said that he was surprised to hear about all of the complaints.
“I don’t think it’s true,” he said. “Other people make louder noises. Everyone has their own way. I sometimes stomp my feet to make them quiet down.”
Ever heard of the pot calling the kettle black?
