*How does the song go…’Hold up, wait a minute!’ Well that’s what I’m telling you to do, at least until you hear what the man who mysteriously placed those racially-charged stickers on businesses all across Texas a few days ago.
I wrote about it here.
But the reason why he said he did it, may leave you shaking your head. I have to be honest, this man says he is a lawyer, but after I heard him speak, and giving the reason for his actions, it would surprise me if he ever won anybody’s case in court.
But as they say, that’s a story for another day.
Adam Reposa posted a video where he is in silhouette “on a soapbox” claiming that its not the words on the stickers that is the problem, but the fact that East Austin is “turning into whites only” because of gentrification, though he doesn’t use that word.
At one point Reposa seems to pat himself on the back because “we fell for it” or something to that effect.
In our earlier report on this story, two female business owners spoke about finding the offensive stickers on their property. The sticker read in part, “Exclusively for white people. Maximum of 5 colored customers, colored BOH (Back of House) staff accepted.” They even had a city logo in which Austin Mayor Steve Adler quickly stated released a statement saying the stickers were “appalling” and that the perpetrator would be dealt with.
I guess we’ll see what that means now that Reposa has surfaced and made a statement on Facebook saying he was trying bring light to the the issue of gentrification in East Austin.
And the fact that he’s a lawyer may work in his favor; after all, whatever happens, at least he knows his rights.
“The real problem is that people without money are getting f***ed. They’re getting pushed out pretty quick. This area of town is turning into white’s only. Not by law like it used to be…And everyone’s going to jump on, ‘that’s racist!’ ‘that’s racist!’ Man, this town, the way **** works is racist! And I knew I could just bait all of y’all into being just as stupid as you are. Just allowing the issue to be framed in the most simple way.”
As of now, it’s unclear if any charges will be filed against Reposa.
