*Sounds like music legend Madonna is starting to feel her age. Oh not in the way that she’s admitting to any aches and pains associated with getting older; but more like what it feels like to be treated as ‘less than’ or ‘not as good as,’ or ‘not holding the same value as.’ I mean, can you imagine someone referring to Madonna as an ‘old broad?’ She can’t! So she broached the topic of ageism in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, and in doing so, compared it to racism and homophobia.
“It’s still the one area where you can totally discriminate against somebody and talk shit,” the 56-year-old pop singer said. “Because of their age. Only females, though. Not males. So in that respect, we still live in a very sexist society.”
Yep, for example, ‘sir’ doesn’t sound nearly as degrading as ‘ma’am.’
But here’s where the singer of some of today’s most recognized music might get you to raise a brown. Madonna says, “No one would dare to say a degrading remark about being black or dare to say a degrading remark on Instagram about someone being gay,” she continued. “But my age — anybody and everybody would say something degrading to me. And I always think to myself, why is that accepted? What’s the difference between that and racism, or any discrimination? They’re judging me by my age. I don’t understand. I’m trying to get my head around it.”
What planet is girlfriend truly living on if she thinks no degrading remarks have been made about being black or gay?’
Madonna also talked about encouraging women to embrace their sexuality at any age.
