*A pastor, his wife and five year old son were the victims of a vicious beating that killed all three of them. The three bodies were discovered after congregation members had not heard from their pastor, and went over to his residence. When no one answered the door, they asked maintenance to allow them in, and it was then that the bodies were discovered, according to KPRC, an NBC News affiliate in the city.
The pastor hadn’t been seen since Friday. The discovery happened on Monday.
A highly-educated man, Rev. Israel Ahimbisibwe served as the chaplain at the University of Houston and was a part-time pastor at The Church of the Redeemer. Members of the congregation became concerned when the pastor didn’t show up for services.
Doris Ahimbisibwe and the couple’s five-year-old son, Jay, were also killed. All of the bodies were found on Monday, Feb. 2 in a back bathroom. They were covered with blankets and towels and there were no signs of forced entry.
The couple also has two adult sons, Emmanuel and Issac. One of their sons is in the Marines (or so they thought) and the other is away at boarding school in California.
“We’re in a state of shock,” Nancy Taylor, the church’s secretary, told NBC News. “We cannot think of anything — he never talked about any type of problem or situation that would lead us to think of someone who could have done this.”
“It’s devastating. It’s sad. It’s unexplainable,” said Nancy Taylor, who attends Church of the Redeemer Episcopal where Ahimbisibwe was pastor.
Ordained in Uganda, Ahimbisibwe came to the US during the mid-2000’s. He studied at Harvard Divinity School and earned a masters and PhD at Rice University.
A memorial service is being held for the pastor at The University of Houston, where he is known as Father Israel.
“He was very tall, skinny, quiet, but he could light up a room,” said Bruce Twenhafel, manager of the university’s A.D. Bruce Religion Center. “He was just a neat person.”
Our prayers are with the family, with hopes that they will find out who committed this horrendous atrocity.
