(NEW YORK, N.Y. September 22, 2014) – On October 2, 2014, the eve of National Magic Week,International Master Magician ICE McDonald, the newly elected National President of the Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.) along with S.A.M.’s National Dean, George Schindler and one of the Society’s Senior Officers David Bowers will visit the gravesite of world famous escape artist Harry Houdini. Planning for the huge restoration process will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Machpelah Cemetery in Queens.

The visit to Houdini’s gravesite will be especially sentimental for ICE who on July 3, 2014 made history by becoming the first African-American National President of the S.A.M. in the organization’s 112 year history. Houdini was also a national president of the S.A.M. from 1917 until his death on October 31, 1926. Founded in 1902 in Martinka’s famous magic shop in New York, the S.A.M. is the oldest and most prestigious magic organization in the world. They have promoted the ideals shared by Kellar, Houdini, Thurston and more than 47,000 others world-wide who have held membership in the society. Their mission is to promote an environment for the worldwide magic community that fosters fellowship, preservation of the magical arts, ethical standards, education and personal growth.

“It brings me joy to visit the great city of New York, and an honor to attend the Gravesite of one of magic’s greatest treasures, the Honorable Past National President of The Society of American Magicians, Harry Houdini” states ICE.

Regarded as a magician’s magician, ICE is an award-winning entertainer who for over 30 years has mesmerized audiences with his grand illusions including making doves appear through impossibly small objects and causing a dancing ballerina to vanish right before your eyes. Having had no formal training in magic and well-known in the magic community for building his own elaborate illusions, ICE is one of a small number of professional African-American magicians in the world.

ICE McDonald has sold out performances at The Magic Castle in Hollywood, broken audience and box office records at Monday Night Magic in New York and was recently interviewed on NRP’s Morning Edition with Steve Inskeep, featured on morning news shows throughout the country and has been a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Masters of Illusion (series on FOX TV), the documentary The Art and Soul of Magic – The Story of America’s Black Magician and ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, UPN, BBC. He’s also been featured in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and in many international publications. His sheer mastery of illusion has astonished audiences in London, Wales, India, Singapore, Jamaica, Bahamas, and throughout the United Kingdom.
