*Just when it appeared things might be calming down in the state of Missouri, a disturbing story comes to the fore about a group of young black men who viciously assaulted a white couple in Springfield.
And the attack was caught on surveillance video.
The brutal attack on a woman and her boyfriend happened on Friday, August 22 in downtown Springfield, and the Springfield Police Department released the video as they seek leads to identify the perpetrators.
The couple, Meredith Cole and her boyfriend Alex Vessey, were both treated at a hospital for serious injuries after the ordeal.
According to KY3 News, Cole said she was standing outside of the Outland Ballroom where Vassey was working as a DJ, when the group of men approached and began to sexually assault her.
She said she went inside the club to find Vassey and alert him to the assault.
When the couple left the club in attempts to identify the men who Cole said assaulted her that’s when they were accosted by a group of six young black males.
In the video you see that Vassey is punched and kicked repeatedly, while one of the men punches Cole in the face, knocking her to the ground.
She can be seen repeatedly trying to help her boyfriend, but is repeatedly pushed to the ground.
After most of the young men run away, a white male wearing head-to-toe black and red sneakers runs into the shot and kicks Vassey multiple times before running off with the rest of the group.
Both the man and the woman appear to be bleeding from the head and Cole sustained a fractured ankle.
Vassey called the attack ‘unbelievable’.
‘As soon as we started walking that way, about halfway down, they jumped on top of me,’ he told OzarksFirst.com
‘She tried to get them off me and they assaulted her too.’
‘I wasn’t scared,’ he added. ‘I was just mad that it was happening kind of unbelievable that people act like that.’
Cole said she fears the gang may strike again.
‘Hopefully they get arrested and they’re not going to do that to anybody else,’ she told the publication.
Police can be seen running after the suspects in hot pursuit, but the group scattered and none of the perpetrators were caught.
The are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 869-TIPS.
This is definitely not OK and I hope these guys get caught and brought to justice!
