*Whoa, it’s really bad when your own hometown hates you. Well, hate may be a strong word, but what do you call what’s just below it? Some black residents on Chicago’s South Side have a serious bone to pick with the president. They came together to protest President Obama’s treatment of immigrants at the expense of those living in urban communities.
“Barack will go down as the worst president ever elected,” said one person. “Bill Clinton was the African-American President.”
Here’s the problem as the protestors see it: They are demonstrating the billions of dollars Obama is requesting to handle the immigration crisis; and the youth crossing over the border, while ignoring urban cities like Chicago, which is plagued by viοlence and poverty.
“Mr. President, we’re asking for you,” one woman said, according to the Washington Times. “You’re spending billions of dollars in Texas, but we’ve a problem here in Chicago. We will not stand by this here, and keep letting this senseless kιlling and shooting happen in our community.”
Last week the White House requested $3.7 billion dollars in emergency funding to deal with the flood of immigrant minors coming into the U.S.
The president’s request came after a meeting with Texas Governor Rick Perry.
“He [Perry] was concerned that some of the positioning of border patrol agents is too far from the border to be effective in deterring folks from coming in as opposed to simply apprehending them,” Obama said.
“I indicated to him that what he said made sense … if we pass the supplemental we would have the resources to carry out some of the things that he has requested.”
Many of the youth who are coming to the U.S. in record numbers are fleeing viοlence from places like Honduras, which has the highest mυrder rate in the world and Mexico, which has a high crime rate fueled largely by drug cartels.
