*Many of us use valet when we are out and about. Especially if we find ourselves running late, going out for the evening to a crowded venue and don’t want to spend time looking for a parking space. And yes, we have all heard the stories of the valet taking our nice sportscar on a joy ride.
But what if the valet doesn’t even get that far? What if he, say, pulls out of the parked space right in front of an oncoming car.
What if your insurance tells you, “This doesn’t look good?”
This is what happened to Marisa Teters, who was making her first trip out since giving birth and was attending a bridal shower Queen Vic Pub & Kitchen in Upper Kirby last Saturday night.
She said she believes the valet pulled out in front of a car on Richmond Avenue.
“There were like five or six valet people out there,” said Teters. “Different ones would come and talk to me and trying to say it wasn’t their fault.”
She knew that couldn’t be the case because, although it took hours for the police to finally show up, they did give the other driver a ticket before letting him go.
But the Teters say it has been difficult to get anyone to take accountability and with the car having thousands of dollars worth of damage, they even had to go into their own pocket to pay hundreds of dollars to get the car, which is inoperable, out of impound.
According to KHOU, the valet company outside of the Queen Vic establishment, SPS Valet, was contacted and management claims they did offer a rental car – but the company has yet to claim responsibility without an official police report which, according to the Houston Police Dept., could take weeks.
In the meantime, the couple says no one offered them anything and their own insurance company even told them it doesn’t look good.
“They say that basically the valet companies usually get away with this,” said Teters. “They usually have to file under their own insurance and they never can get anything from the valet companies.”
The manager of the valet company said if they are at fault, they will pay. Until then, the couple vows to never use a valet service again.
