‘I Only Meant To Scare Him’ Says Father Who Fatally Shot Teen Son

Darius Adams fatally shot by dad
This 17-year-old, Darius Adams, didn’t live to play any more football games at his McIntosh High School

*This is so undeniably sad and unnecessary. Our world needs prayer.

“It’s just a very tragic thing,” Washington County Sheriff Richard Stringer told the Call News. “The man kιlled his own son. It just doesn’t get much worse than that.”

Stringer is speaking in response to the fact that 17-year-old McIntosh High School football player, Darius Adams, was shot in the stomach and killed at the hand of his own father.

No, it doesn’t get much worse than that.

The Alabama high school football player was gunned down by his own father Friday morning, authorities said.

Sexton Adams, the father, told police that his son acted “in a bizarre and angry manner,” causing him to go get his gun.

“He cocked the pistol, and in the process, according to him, the pistol went off,” Stringer said.

FOX10TV also reports that the elder Adams told police he only intended to scare his son but the gun fired accidentally.

“He’s a good man. He don’t bother nobody. He don’t do nothing but work and tend to his own business,” he said.

Call News reports that the father used a .38 special to gun down his son. Darius was taken to the hospital after being shοt in the stomach but was pronounced dead at 8:10 a.m.

The father had not been charged at the time this report was filed.

  1. They’re always “nice guys”, but every time I’ve handled a gun (I don’t own one) I’ve always been admonished never to point it at anyone unless I intended to shoot them. Don’t gun owners know that guns are able to discharge accidentally? I mean, this would be only one of the many thousands of times these kinds of accidents make the newspapers, tv news, cable news, websites and blogs globally. Yet, here we go again with another accidental killing. Yet another gun discharged accidentally while pointed at an unintended victim.

Whether it is true or not that the matter is just a tragic accident, I think a rather harsh punishment needs to be meted out regardless, because, it seems that warnings and admonishments that would prevent these kinds of tragedies, are going unheeded. So it’s, “sorry for your loss, but it was completely preventable!”

  2. What about “never point a gun at someone unless you intend to shoot” did he not understand? I know he’s heard it before. I’d be willing to bet we will hear a lot more about this family. This can’t be the first run in these two have had.
