Black Beauty Fearlessly Shares Her Struggle With Vitiligo (Watch)

Vitiligo, Cheri Lindsay*It takes a whole lot of something special to let go of that ego and get right down to the bare bones of things. Especially when it comes to looks.

The beauty industry continues to rake in billions of dollars annually, supported mainly by women working overtime to look like their version of “beautiful,” – buying dye to wash that gray right out of my hair; change that hair from brown to red in a nano second; and keep up with the latest in makeup applications.

Which is what makes the video below featuring Cheri Lindsay, a Black woman with vitiligo, so incredibly awesome and inspiring.

In the video, Ms. Lindsay tells us a little about herself before removing the perfectly blended makeup that covers the white areas of her face and neck. Them she explains her experiences with the autoimmune disease.

“When I first got vitiligo I had to ask myself a few questions: ‘Does it hurt?’ No. ‘Is it contagious?’  Not at all.  ‘Can I still live with this and be successful?’ Hell yes!”

The video is part of the makeup line Dermablend Professional‘s Camo Confessions campaign. The brand encourages people to share their beauty secrets and reveal the imperfections they typically hide. They do this via videos uploaded to their site. One dollar from each video benefits Look Good Feel Better.

Thank you Lindsay, for being a trailblazer and fabulously sharing your story.
