Here’s what happened: You know how Google does those doodle pics on their Homepage? The jury’s still out on my end as to whether I like ’em or not…But that’s not the point of this story. Sorry.
The thing is, on February 1, the first day of Black History Month, the doodle featured Civil Rights era abolitionist Harriet Tubman. Please tell me that you know who she is…Underground Railroad? She led a multitude of slaves to freedom?
But here’s the thing that apparently pissed Nick off. In the picture, where Tubman is shown carrying a lantern, she is also wearing a rag and that’s what raised the hairs on Nick’s arms.
Now I ask you, have you ever seen a photo of Harriet Tubman where she was not wearing a rag on her head?
I’m not saying there are none, but to get upset over this seems a little, hmm, what’s the word I’m looking for…?
A-n-y-w-a-y…Nick thought it was racist and sent out the Instagram below.
According to TMZ, Google stands by the picture and doesn’t feel they’ve done anything wrong. In fact, those boys are probably sitting in the employee lounge going WTF?
And another thing: Google says they did NOT take down the picture early due to the moderate backlash generated in part by Nick’s Instagram and contend that the doodle was up for the same 24-hours as any other. So don’t go saying they took it down early…’Cause they didn’t.
Nick, that’s all. They’re good.
