*Ah, good old capitalism. It, my friends, is what makes the bottom line in business so exciting. So, you’d better believe that when it comes to marketing, advertisers are going to utilize anything and everything they can get their greedy little hands on to bring your attention to their product, their brand. This time, it was the Martin Luther King holiday.
Now as you know, creating an ad is delicate. People can’t feel like they are being bamboozled. Oh sure we know you’re trying to sell us something, but we don’t want it to look like you’re trying to sell us something. Whatever you do, don’t make it seem like you just grabbed a quote by a great civil rights icon and stuck it on the face of your brand to solicit greater donations. Um, PETA anyone? Oops, I’ve already said too much.
I salute all of the brands who chose to celebrate the memory of this great man and what he stood for.
Some of your favorite companies celebrated the MLK, Jr. holiday with inspirational messages and quotes that they creatively connected to their brand. Some of them hit the mark, while others didn’t. According to one comment, PETA was one of the brands that didn’t. In fact, the post called their ad, “borderline cringe-inducing.”
Here’s one of my favorites. I think this company was very creative in tying in the holiday with their brand.
