Is Nielsen Holding Back? MSNBC Kicked Fox Network’s Butt in Ratings!

Melissa Harris Perry, MSNBC

*Well I’m sure this gave MSNBC news anchor Melissa Harris-Perry something to smile about following her tearful apology to the Romney family recently.

Her employer, MSNBC, was a surefire winner in the weekday prime daypart (8 pm-11 pm, Monday through Friday).

The network race-horsed its competitors and crossed the finish line first among African American viewers in the key 25-54 year-old demographic. For the same time slot and age demo, CNN held the edge with Hispanic viewers, in a much more level field.

The network grew substantially in 2012 with its strong black audience, and in this year’s annual ratings memo, they announced their continued success with a single line:

2013 is the fourth consecutive year MSNBC primetime is #1 among cable news nets among African-American viewers with both A25-54 and Total viewers.

But this Mediaite article points out that a deeper look at the numbers, from Nielsen Media Research, shows a level of domination that their memo doesn’t quite convey.

Take a look at the numbers break down here.
