The Facebook nation has to prep for yet another useless update to the Facebook system that certainly no one has requested.
The new Trending Topics feature on the site will cause older posts to show up on the Facebook News Feed as they test out the feature to test their theory of maintaining longer viewership on Facebook by posting items that are still being “liked” months after their original post, according to the L.A. Times.
Starting Wednesday, a small number of Facebook mobile users may have seen a “Trending” icon that “shows a currently popular topic near the top of their News Feed.” When they click on the icon all of their friends “buzz-worthy” topics will be available as well as what others are saying on the trending topic.
“The data suggest that this update does a better job of showing people the stories they want to see, even if they missed them the first time,” Facebook said.”
But the real object is to keep them on the site longer to make sure they see all those advertisements (wink wink).
