Kwame Kilpatrick has been back and forth to prison and unable to pay his bills, but managed to keep his wife and kids in a mansion in Texas…until now.
As the former mayor of Detroit awaits a new prison sentence, his wife Carlita Kilpatrick, was seen removing her unwanted furniture from their Grand Prairie, Texas mansion in preparation for moving day. The former first lady of Detroit had recently earned a position with the Parks & Recreation department, but she didn’t make it past the probationary period and was let go. Now her and her two sons are moving out of their home because the lease has expired and it appears the financial well has run dry, according to Detroit’s local NBC affiliate WDIV channel 4 News.
The media has long questioned Kwame Kilpatrick about his lavish lifestyle in Texas and how he was able to afford it, but he never really provided a substantial response. But he did blame the bulldog prosecutor Kim Worthy–that brought the charges against him, promised to crucify him, and was highly successful–for not being able to make a wage. When asked how he could ask taxpayers to pay him a living wage and live such a nice life, Kilpatrick said:
“I have a nice house, a nice life is a different thing. I’m not making any money right now. Every time I try to travel Michigan wants to get involved if I want to go speak somewhere Detroit wants to deny me the right to go speak.”
He thought he’d win the federal case agasint him and pay back Detroit, but that did not happen.
“You don’t know, I want to do this worse than anything in the world because I think it frees Detroit and it frees me. This is a way and lie Kim Worthy is using to keep me in bondage, to keep me enslaved if you will.”
So far, it is not known where the Kilpatrick family will be moving next. Check out the report.
