In late June, we reported on pro-choice hero Wendy Davis when she stood on Texas’ state floor and staged an 11-hour filibuster without breaks to fight against the abortion bill that would close all but five abortion clinics in the state.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry was in total opposition to Davis, so much so, that he re-introduced the bill and had it signed into law Thursday morning. The earlier version was successfully thwarted by Davis’ filibuster, but sly Perry slid a new and improved version in and both houses of the legislature passed it through last week with a final signature from Perry today. According to the report from the Huffington Post, he was locked and loaded, prepared for today!
“…Perry subsequently called a second session in order to fast-track a vote on it. Both houses of the legislature passed the bill last week.”
Wow! This is a devastating blow to women’s rights throughout Texas and a call to all of the Wendy Davis’ of the state to stand and fight!
