The Supreme Court set temperatures on a new high when they altered the Voting Rights Act by voting that the state governs the voting procedures in their state without any federal intervention. But, they didn’t stop there.
According to MSNBC, they have gone completely right wing and handed down decisions that add to the wealth of big business and corporations. The list is as follows:
“The justices made it more difficult to bring class-action suits against companies, raised the bar for workers to win discrimination claims and protected pharmaceutical companies against people who say they were harmed by defective generic drugs.”
If that doesn’t sound like open season on the common people, I don’t know what does. It’s ironic that these types of judicial crimes are cropping up now because this is something that would’ve been expected during Bush’s term as president. But, in fairness, President Obama only nominated Judge Sotomayor and it doesn’t appear that her more liberal stance can win against some of her more conservative colleagues like Chief Justice John Roberts.
Now, if you’re still not frightened by hearing the name Roberts, one of the examples given in the report show an overturned ruling of a $21 million award that “a New Hampshire jury ordered for a woman who took a generic drug for shoulder pain in 2004 and suffered a rare reaction. She was blinded, and the outer layer of her skin burned off over most of her body.”
Something tells us that they are not done. There are more examples of these ridiculous rulings. Read them here.
