The George Zimmerman trial is hot and heavy with all sorts of trending topics hitting social media. One of the most popular trending topics were the criticisms of the star witness, the last person to speak to Trayvon Martin before George Zimmerman shot and killed him.
Rachel Jeantel was called “dumb” among other things, but should the defense attorney be able to infer her “stupidity” in an Instragram photo with their dad, defense attorney Don West? In a suspect photo of West and his daughters out to get ice cream after cross examining Jeantel, the photo’s caption reads:
” ‘We beat stupidity celebration cones’ and ‘#dadkilledit.’ “
Well, if you think it’s just us that finds this deplorable and unprofessional for its obvious targeting of Jeantel’s intelligence, then think again. The prosecution wants a review of this event, according to the Daily Mail.
“Prosecutors said an inquiry is necessary ‘to ensure that witnesses and court proceedings are treated with respect and not as occasions for inappropriate jokes.’ “
West is the defense attorney in one of the biggest court cases of the century and he didn’t have the professional sense to tell his daughter not to post a picture with this caption that should have him dismissed from the case?
A spokesman for West’s daughter said:
‘The defense team is highly sensitive to the issues that surround this case, and we understand that the way we conduct ourselves during trial is at least as important as the verdict,’ the statement said.
‘And Molly’s comments on Instagram are contrary to everything we stand for.’
Well if her comments are contrary, then maybe her father should’ve told her that she could not post the photo on Instagram for the world to see…with that ridiculously disrespectful caption.
Read more here. We are hoping that this infraction is enough to have West removed from the case. But, so far it’s not likely as this photo went viral last week and West was back in the courtroom on Friday.
