The BET Awards jumped off with their annual pre-show where all of the celebrities show off their unique rags and say a few words to their adoring public.
This year’s pre-show hosts included the business mogul and daughter of rap legend Rev. Run, Ms. Angela Simmons. But another pre-show red carpet host was the openly gay blogger B. Scott, who wanted to join Ms. Angela in heels, but the powers that be at BET said a hasty “No! No! No!” to that and he was asked to change his wardrobe, according to Rolling Out magazine.
B. Scott is known for his androgynous look, but BET was obviously uncomfortable with it for the red carpet and they drew the line at Scott in stilettos. Scott was excited to have his first gig on the red carpet with the BET Awards, but the decision to rid him of his shoe choice took the wind out of his sails and he took to Twitter.
He was visibly upset as he hosted and he said he was thankful to his friends K. Michelle, Nicole Ari Parker, Boris Kodjoe and his good friend, Mariah Carey, for consoling him during the show via Twitter.
BET hasn’t given a reason for their decision as of yet, but with the twitter-verse jumping all over the situation, surely they will be responding soon. Rolling Out has already characterized the incident as “coming off as homophobic and effemiphobic.”
