There are so many stories of tragedy out of Detroit, that we are elated to report a tragedy that took a turn for the best.
On April 6, high school senior, football star, honor student, Homecoming King, student and senior class president Balaal Hollings was shot in his head when trying to break up a fight. The Northwestern High School senior survived the shooting, but could not walk or talk, according to the ABC 7 report.
But Tuesday, during graduation at the Millenium Centre in Southfield, Hollings, after being unable to return to school for his last two months, surprised the graduating class with a surprise walk across the stage and a speech.
“First of all, I wanna thank God. It is so good to be alive.”
Hollings is obviously a large young man with a healthy appetite and he was able to make light of his injuries with a little joke about his eating.
“I forgot a lot of stuff, I forgot how to walk. I forgot how to talk, but I didn’t forget how to eat.”
He is obviously an extraordiary young man and a ray of hope for not only his graduating class, but the city.
Check out the heartwarming report below. Congratulations to Balaal Hollings and the Class of 2013.
