The fast food industry entices us with their sweet drinks and salty fare until we are addicted and our children obsessed with a quick fix for their hunger. But as more and more of the fast food chains are exposed for the dirty little secrets about their foods and poor sanitary practices by their employees, we tend to think we’re taking our life into our own hands more and more every day when visiting our favorite spots.
Taco Bell had to go into speedy damage control when a picture of one of its employees hit the internet in a viral way Monday. The employee, which has been unnamed and unidentified, posted a pic of himself on his Facebook account licking what looks like a stack of approximately 30 tacos. The Consumerist, which is a subsidiary of Consumer Reports, posted the photo on Monday, according to USA Today.
Taco Bell immediately stated that the tacos were not used for general consumption.
“We have strict food and handling procedures and zero tolerance for any violations,” Taco Bell says in a statement. The company insists that the franchisee — whose name and location it hasn’t revealed — did not serve the taco shells to any customers. “They were used for training only and in the process of being thrown out,” the company says.
The picture is a reminder that we are taking our chances of being fed by strangers that we wouldn’t even speak to on the streets, much less let prepare our dinner. This picture drudges up memories of horrific fast food sabotage that we will not explore here.
