The Powerball winner has finally made herself known and someone out there is surely pissed off about it.
The town of Zephyrhills, Florida, can stop with the rumors, 84-year-old Gloria Mackenzie has claimed her prize. She’s not the employee that was working at the Publix store where the ticket was sold that decided not to show up the next day. Nope, she’s a little old lady who SOMEONE ALLOWED TO GO AHEAD OF THEM IN LINE FOR HER QUICK PICK!
Yes! Can you believe that someone unwittingly passed up half a billion dollars? Now Ms. Mackenzie you know it’s only right to get the camera from the store and find out who that good samaritan was, so you can give them a cut. And you know whoever let her move ahead in line remembers and is thinking the same thing.
Mackenzie didn’t show for the formal acceptance with lottery officials, but she did show up to the Tallahassee, Florida, office to confirm her ticket flanked by an entourage that included her son, legal and financial advisors, and a close family friend. She opted for the lump sum payout which is worth $370.9 million. She released this statement through Lottery Secretary Cynthia O’Connell:
“While in line at Publix, another lottery player was kind enough to let me go ahead of them in line to purchase the winning quick-pick ticket,” Mackenzie said. “We are grateful for this blessing of winning the Florida Lottery Powerball jackpot and appreciate the interest of the public, the state of Florida and the lottery. We hope that everyone will give us the opportunity to maintain our privacy for our family’s benefit.”
But we’re not buyin’ it! The real winner is a younger family member that doesn’t want the headache of all the requests for cash. Their Facebook friends alone will take half the money.
