Miss Clairol, Dark and Lovely, and Just For Men hair dye producers are preparing to join forces and put a hit out on scientists moving in on their hair business.
Just kidding! But the competition is real. A group of scientists are declaring that their latest research has made a groundbreaking discovery in the treatment of gray hair. They say they have found the secret to either prevent and/or rid your head of hair of all the gray, according to Yahoo! Shine.
Germany’s Institute for Pigmentary Disorders at E.M. Arndt University of Greifswald and the UK’s Centre for Skin Sciences at the University of Bradford, collaborated to perform the life changing study. The report offered a small lesson on why you have gray hair:
First, a mini science lesson: Gray hair is the result of oxidative stress that causes hydrogen peroxide to accumulate in the hair follicle. In response, the hair strand then essentially bleaches itself, from the inside out.
The study provided a topical application to the control group used in the study and found that it not only converted hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen in the hair follicle, but it also worked on 2,411 patients with the skin condition Michael Jackson struggled with called vitiligo. So, not only did they find a way to thwart those gray hairs, but also bring pigmentation back to the skin.
Would you go out and get the treatment or have you settled into your gray hair and wear it as a badge of honor? Read more on the study here.
