The saggy pants fad doesn’t appear to be fading away anytime soon. No matter how much law officials try to crack down on all the crack revealing wear, the trend just will not die.
Aaron Woodbury is the latest victim of the trend, but his wife Semekia Woodbury said he doesn’t even sag his pants. According to her interview with Channel 12 KSLA, that’s not his style. But the Shreveport, Louisiana, police department tell a more complex story of the arrest. Woodbury was allegedly at the scene of a fight that occurred in his neighborhood and police asked him to pull up his pants and go home, but he refused to pull up his pants and two occasions and then they arrested him. He was charged with wearing his pants below his waist and resisting arrest.
Men of all ages and racial ethnicity, tell us, WHAT …IS SO APPEALING TO YOU ABOUT SAGGING YOUR PANTS? Now if you’re not a sagger, maybe you can get someone to answer that question and report your results to us because we would really like to know why this senseless trend is not ending.
Many news sites like U.S. Prison Culture explain how the trend started from prison culture because inmates aren’t allowed to have belts for fear of suicide attempts and drug use. But there are also ties to homosexuality and what is called “easy access” in the prison that explain the origin of the booty billboard.
The trend also carries a stigma of crime culture with it because of the tie to prison culture, but there are many men who do not engage in crimes. This is confusing. As we said before, Dave Chappelle in his Killing Me Softly routine talks of women being thought of as street women because they show up to the club in a “hooker’s uniform.” It’s all about image and there are too many that judge the person based on what they choose to wear. So again, our question remains, Why is it so important to sag your pants?
Check out the report on Woodbury. His wife Semekia said: “I feel like it’s your right it’s your style to wear your clothes how you want to wear them. It shows who you are as an individual.”
