Another police department in Florida is under fire for instances stemming from the Trayvon Martin tragedy, but they are not going down for one police officer’s ridiculous actions.
Police officer Sgt. Ron King was fired from the Port Canaveral, Florida, police department for providing targets that were made to resemble Trayvon Martin. Allegedy, the targets were being used at a police gun range, but King has refuted those allegations saying that he was in possession of the targets, but did not use them. He stated in his YouTube response to his termination that he purchased the targets for a “no shoot” exercise.
Port Canaveral Interim Chief Executive Officer John Walsh reported a very different story than what King has put together in his video. Walsh said that when King brought the targets out and asked the officers if they wanted to use it during target practice, two officers and a civilian port employee told him to “put them back into his patrol car.” Port Canaveral is only 50 miles from Sanford where the awful crime occurred in 2012.
The YouTube video King constructed to explain the incident is riddled with patronizing remarks to the Martin family that include them in his statements of being a part of a political tug-o-war that they both have been caught up in.
